BOLL ADHESIVE FOR WINDSCREEN FMVSS 212-certified

When installing windscreens, the performance of the adhesive used is extremely important, especially its tensile and shear strength, elasticity and adhesion. Bonded windscreens are an important structural element of car body,  helping to maintain its rigidity and ensure passenger safety. Even during normal driving, the windscreen is exposed to strong vibrations. The glazing adhesive must therefore be hard enough to transmit the vibrations caused by bodywork with ease, and flexible enough not to crack in the process. It must also have a low coefficient of volume change after drying and the right viscosity to retain the correct shape after application.

Adhesives joining the windscreens have another extremely important function – they are involved in absorbing the energy caused by a collision.

We are proud to announce that BOLL Windscreen Adhesive and BOLL SPRINT Windscreen Adhesive are FMVSS 212-certified, confirmed by a crash test. The certification process was carried out by HORIBA MIRA*. The crash test was carried out on a Ford Mondeo 4-door sedan with two airbags. The vehicle was accelerated to 50km/h and subjected to a head-on collision with a stationary crash block.

FMVSS 212 certification confirms that BOLL adhesives ensure that the vehicle's windscreen is retained during a crash, preventing passengers from being ejected from the vehicle or the roof from crumpling during a rollover.

The use of low-quality glue is a common cause of car windows cracking after replacement.

A glass adhesive that is too stiff is unable to absorb the loads caused by the movement of the body, so their energy is transferred to the glass. In such a case, the glass can even break as a result of the wheel falling into a pothole or driving over a higher kerb. The same will be true of adhesive that changes its volume during drying or temperature fluctuations – the resulting high stresses lead to the glass cracking seemingly on its own while driving.

BOLL windscreen adhesives form a durable seal, resistant to water, weather and acids. They can be used to bond windscreens, side windows and rear windows, even on vehicles equipped with airbags. BOLL adhesives are easy to apply, they 'do not relax' after application nor change volume while drying. Once set, the bond withstands large temperature fluctuations and accommodates the different thermal expansion of the glass and metal composite surfaces, allowing the two elements to move independently.

Our adhesives are successfully used for the installation of bus windows. The windscreens on buses are much larger and heavier than those on cars, and are set almost vertically. For this reason, the products used for their insertion must be characterised by increased flexibility and withstand significantly higher loads.

We offer a complete windscreen mounting system, i.e. suction cups, stand, mounting tape, primer, applicators and degreasing cloths. In addition to the standard glass adhesive, the range includes a SPRINT version – with a shorter drying time. After its application, the car is driveable after just 1 hour (at 23 C and 50% humidity). Depending on your preference and needs, you can choose the product in a tube (cartouche) or a foil packet (pouch) for application with a squeezer.
